The industrial and agricultural exploitation of natural resources has taken a toll on entire ecosystems,
endangering many species, including the mythical creatures that still inhabit Belarus.
For centuries, Belarusians have lived alongside spirits and mystical creatures, knowing how to interact with them and coexist peacefully.
And Tsmok, when befriended, could reveal the path to hidden treasures.
People would greet Lesavik before entering the woods and ask Rusalka for permission before going for a swim.
In exchange for a cup of milk, Kot Varhin would ensure the entire family had a restful night’s sleep.
The economic and social shifts of recent decades have had a drastic impact on the traditional way of life for Belarusians,
many of whom have moved to cities or abroad, losing their connection to their roots and cosmogony.
This project was created:
to raise awareness about the impact of human activity on nature
to promote restoration of our connection with the unseen world and our ancestral roots.
this project is
a deeply personal homage
to Belarusian mythology and the magical worldview of my ancestors.
I admire their innate ability to coexist peacefully with so many different species and creatures.
I believe there is a lesson here for all of us —
